REINTEGRATION COUNSELING
: assists clients in successfully reintegrating to community living. Span provides individual and group services examining practical and emotional issues related to release and addressing negative behaviors learned prior to and during imprisonment.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELING: assists clients to address the substance abuse issues in their lives. Span provides intake assessment, individual and group counseling, pro-active recovery, graduate group, social skills group, Latino, and relapse prevention groups, referral, crisis intervention, and aftercare.

THE DROP IN CENTER: assists clients with HIV to develop social and recreational skills that enhance their ability to live healthy lives without drugs and/or crime. Span provides meals, a safe and drug-free environment, activities, events, and tools to assist with job search.

HIV HEALTH EDUCATION: assists clients to learn how to prevent the transmission of HIV, STDs, TB, and HCV. Span provides individual and small group learning opportunities that address health issues, assist with application for health insurance, and assist clients to utilize the health care system.

PRISONER RE-ENTRY INITIATIVE: assists clients to find work, develop career goals, work with a mentor, and access services. This is a demonstration project of the US Department of Labor and can only be provided to those who have not been convicted of a violent crime. 

PREVENTION CASE MANAGEMENT:
assists clients who are at very high risk of contracting HIV or those who are HIV positive by providing intensive case management and prevention counseling. While prevention counseling is the main component, a full array of case management services is provided to assist individuals who have a history of risky behaviors, such as: IV drug use, sharing needles, engaging in unprotected sex, having sex with multiple partners, having sex with a partner who injects drugs, or a history of STD’s.

REGIONAL RE-ENTRY CENTER/PAROLE SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES:
is open to those who have been released on parole or are wrapped up and staying in Greater Boston or the Quincy area. Services are provided at the Quincy and Mattapan regional re-entry centers and include intake and assessment, education and referral, and short-term substance abuse counseling.

YOUTH ENTERING SOCIETY SERVICES:
assists youthful offenders between 18 and 24 in adult prisons. The program is education based, and helps clients address their substance abuse issues. Counseling, case management, vocational and career development are provided

REINTEGRATION SUPPORT PROGRAM (RSP):
assists offenders who would otherwise be homeless make a successful transition into the community. Provides short-term housing including residential treatment facilities, sober houses, and SROs. Priority is given to those who are able to work. Case management is offered to assist clients in finding work, permanent housing, and reducing the risk of relapse and re-incarceration.

SERVICES FOR PRISONERS AND EX-PRISONERS WITH HIV

CORRECTIONS TO COMMUNITY:
assists clients with HIV to prepare for and cope with reintegration and resettlement. Case management is provided to ensure that medical and social services are in place, crisis intervention, home and/or community visits and transportation to ensure clients receive the necessary services to make safe transitions to the community.  This is a shorter term, intensive case management, harm reduction opportunity and assists clients in their efforts to achieve and maintain healthy outcomes.

HIV CASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM: assists HIV positive ex-offenders with long-term case management for those being released from prison or those who have been in the community for some time, but need specific assistance. Clients receive support in connecting to medical care and other treatment and rehabilitative services, in addition to securing food, clothing, transportation, etc. We provide client assessments, discharge planning, individual meetings, telephone sessions, advocacy, and community aftercare. Clients learn to responsibly advocate for themselves, take responsibility for their care, increase access to services, improve stability and maintain health.

HIV TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM (THP):
assists clients being released from prison to avoid homelessness. We provide transitional housing in halfway houses and sober houses. Clients are assisted in finding meaningful activities, such as school and volunteer work and permanent housing, reducing the risk of relapse and re-incarceration. This is an intensive program that requires participation in rehabilitative services and a commitment to recovery. Clients may opt to receive housing search only services while living in a setting of their own choice.

Peer Support Groups assists those with HIV to make more personalized and informed decisions, to adjust and cope with life with HIV.

Congregate Meals prepared by and for members of Span create an atmosphere of support and camaraderie to encourage good spirits and support while offering nutritious meals.
